Try These Seafood Recipes at Your Holiday Gatherings
Plan the Perfect Holiday Dish with Seafood
When planning for the holidays, most people think of traditional holiday dishes to serve to family and friends. Cooking with seafood might seem unconventional, but there are many delicious holiday-inspired dishes that are easy to make and will stand out to guests at your next holiday party. Or, use these recipes year-round for a snack or meal that your family will love!
Baked Crab Dip
Baked crab dip is a great appetizer for holiday parties, and it's easy to make. This dish only calls for 8 ingredients, and it can be prepared in just a little over an hour. Start out by beating cream cheese in a bowl until smooth. Mix in sour cream, then fold in crab, cheese, and onions. Next, prepare your bread bowl by cutting off the top of your loaf and hollowing out the inside. Cut the removed bread into cubes to use for dipping, then transfer the crab mixture into your bread bowl. Place your bread bowl and cubed bread on baking sheets and bake at 350°, uncovered, for 45-50 minutes. Serve with cubed bread or any crackers and veggies you like.
Smoked Salmon Crostini
For another easy and tasty appetizer, try this Smoked Salmon Crostini. This dish can be put together in 30 minutes, but it's best to prepare everything at least a few hours in advance to stay chilled in the fridge. Make the tomato relish by mixing together chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Let this marinate for about 15 minutes. While you’re waiting, make the filling by mixing cream cheese, lemon juice, capers, and dill paste until well combined. Prepare the toasts by slicing a baguette into thin slices drizzled with olive oil. Toast them in a large skillet for 2 minutes on each side, then assemble your toasts by spreading the cream cheese mixture and topping with the tomato relish and smoked salmon.
Scallops and Fettuccine
This pasta dish is the perfect addition to a holiday meal or a weekly family dinner. Start by cooking and draining fettuccine according to the package directions. While the pasta cooks, heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and add red pepper, garlic, lemon zest, and pepper flakes. After cooking for 2 minutes, stir in broth, wine, and lemon juice and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-6 minutes. Cut your scallops horizontally in half and add them to the skillet, cooking covered for 4-5 minutes until scallops are firm and opaque. Serve with fettuccine and sprinkle with cheese.
Crab and Cheese Spirals
These holiday-themed pinwheels will add a festive touch to your spread. To make Crab and Cheese Spirals, start by beating cream cheese, crab, olives, and chives in a bowl, then unroll a roll of crescent dough into a long rectangle, sealing its seams and perforations. The next step is to spread 1 cup of the cream cheese mixture and sprinkle with ¼ cup of cheese, then roll up the dough pinching the seams to seal it. Then, using a serrated knife, cut the roll into 10 slices and place on a baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 14-16 minutes and serve warm once they turn golden brown.
