Every year, millions of people gather around their televisions for one of the most popular sporting events in the world: The Super Bowl. Whether you’re tuning in from your living room or catching the game at a sports bar, the event gives people an excuse to mingle, socialize, show team spirit, and load up on great eats. The Super Bowl, which is the final game of the season and determines the National Football League (NFL) champion, is consistently ranked the 2nd most watched single sporting event, behind the UEFA Champions League Final. The most recent matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs drew in over 96 million viewers.

2022 NFL Season and Playoff Highlights

Super Bowl LVI will take place at So-Fi Stadium on February 13th. The 2022 playoffs have been an incredible buildup to the Super Bowl with last second wins and multiple games needing overtime to determine who will advance.

Last weekend, the Cincinnati Bengals took on the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium. It took a miraculous 13-second game tying drive from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes against the Buffalo Bills to reach the AFC Championship. For the second week in a row, the Chiefs found themselves with the ball to start overtime, but Mahomes committed a rare blunder with a deep interception on a third and long. The Chiefs dreams of returning to the Super Bowl fell short thanks to the heroics of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, wide receiver Ja’marr Chase, and running back Joe Mixon. Two years removed from winning the college National Championship with Louisiana State University, Joe Burrow is looking to make history and become only the fifth second-year quarterback ever to win the Super Bowl. Burrow will join the rarefied company of Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and Russell Wilson if he can bring home the Lombardi Trophy to the city of Cincinatti for the first time ever.

Super Bowl LVI will take place on February 13th at So-Fi Stadium in Los Angeles.

On the NFC side of things, the pre-season favorite Los Angeles Rams are heading to their second Super Bowl since re-locating to Los Angeles from St. Louis five years ago. Quarterback Matthew Stafford and Head Coach Sean McVay were able to hang on to a victory against the San Francisco 49ers after the 49ers defense dropped a key interception late in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship. Now, a year after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team ever to play in a Super Bowl in their home stadium, the Los Angeles Rams will get a chance at the same feat. After loading up their team with a talented roster of free agents like Odell Beckham, Jr. and Von Miller during the season, the Rams are the betting favorite over the Bengals.

It’s going to be a great weekend for sports fans of all kinds as NBC will be broadcasting both the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics all weekend long.

Come for the Super Bowl, Stay for the Commercials

Not only does the Super Bowl present an intense game between some of the best athletes in the world competing for the crowning achievement in their sport, but it has developed a reputation for having the most entertaining commercials. During this most “American” of events, many people don’t watch the actual game but solely tune in just to see the hilarious commercial breaks. This is a great opportunity for car companies to announce new vehicles, movie studios to release trailers for summer blockbusters, beer companies, insurance companies, snack companies and more to unveil new ad campaigns. The price of entry is steep: due to the high number of viewers during the Super Bowl, NBC is charging companies $6 million per 30-second commercial spot.

The Greatest Halftime Show on Turf

For those people who don’t turn in for the football or the commercials, the biggest draw is the show-stopping half time show. In 2015, Katy Perry set the record for the most-viewed Super Bowl halftime performance for Super Bowl XLIX, with also featured performances from Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravtiz. This year, the Pepsi Halftime Show is a home affair with performances from Los Angeles locals Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar who will be joined by New York-native Mary J. Blige and, the native son of Detroit, Eminem.
