Why Do We Celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day comes around once a year on February 14th. This holiday, known for romance, dates back to ancient Rome. Some historians think Valentine’s Day originated because the ancient Romans celebrated a mid-February holiday known as Lupercalia, which celebrated fertility and involved men and women being paired together. Others believe the holiday is named after Saint Valentine, who performed weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry. It is believed Saint Valentine wore a ring with a Cupid on it, which we now know as a symbol of love associated with modern-day Valentine’s Day.
