Celebrate The Players Championship in Style
The PGA Tour Arrives in Northeast Florida
We are just a few weeks away from the 2023 edition of THE PLAYERS Championship! Commonly referred to as simply “the Players”, this annual tradition is one of the most highly anticipated golf tournaments of the year, attracting top golfers from around the world to compete on one of the most challenging courses in the sport.
Held annually at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the Players is known for its iconic 17th hole, which features an island green that tests the skill and nerve of even the most seasoned players. The Players has seen some of the most dramatic moments in golf history, from Tiger Woods’ iconic “Better Than Most” putt in 2001 to Webb Simpson’s surprise victory in 2018. Let’s explore what makes this such an exciting event for golf fans and the best ways to experience the action for yourself.
The Tournament
Ever since the first Players Championship in 1974, a win here is one of the most sought-after titles on the PGA Tour. Jack Nicklaus was the first champion and, 9 days later, was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame just down the road.
Fans and players affectionately refer to the tournament as the “fifth major,” on par with the competition at the Masters at Augusta National. This year’s tournament will be held from March 7th through the 12th. Tickets are available here, if you’re looking to attend in person. Full coverage of the Players will be broadcast on NBC and Golf Channel.
Attend the Players Championship
If you’re planning to attend the Players in person, make sure you plan ahead for parking. Most people do not realize that parking passes are not included when you purchase tickets, so make sure to buy your pass beforehand.
The Players will also run a few free shuttle services to make it easier for guests to attend.
The tournament offers many food and drink options for guests to choose from some of Jacksonville’s top restaurants. Plus, to add to the excitement, the 8th green and 9th tee have been recently expanded to feature the new Tito’s Stillhouse Lounge. This lounge includes a putting green, Golden Tee retro arcade game, custom murals, and more! Host a Golf-Theme Party at Home
For those who are watching it from home, one way to enjoy the Players is to host a get-together at home and stream the tournament. Invited friends and family over to enjoy golf-themed snacks like golf ball cake pops. You can also make golf-inspired drinks like the Arnold Palmer. If you and your guests are big fans of golf, decorations like faux grass table runners are another great way to keep things on theme. For party game ideas, consider the icebreaker of guessing how many tees are in a jar or play a group game of golf trivia.
