What is Cointreau?
From classic cocktails to modern mixology, explore the versatility of Cointreau's flavors
If you've ever been to a bar, chances are you've spotted a sleek orange bottle of Cointreau on the shelf. Although it's frequently used in popular cocktails such as Margaritas, Long Islands, and Cosmos, this exceptional liquor can also be savored straight up or over ice. With its harmonious blend of sweet and bitter flavors, Cointreau is a versatile and sophisticated spirit that deserves to be enjoyed in all its forms.
Cointreau’s rich history goes back over 170 years to its birthplace in the beautiful city of Angers on the western side of the country. Édouard Cointreau, the creator of this spirit, passed down his family recipe for generations, perfecting the balance of orange peel aromas, sweetness, spice, and bitter flavors.
At Timoti's Seafood Shak, we're proud to feature Cointreau as a staple ingredient in our mixed drinks. Not only does it work beautifully as a floater to add an extra kick of alcohol, but it also brings a bold, intense flavor to any beverage. We love experimenting with Cointreau to create new and exciting drinks that our beloved customers can't resist.
The Unique Taste of Cointreau
Cointreau has a strong and delicious orange peel taste that everyone loves in cocktails. It's bold, bittersweet, colorless, and has the same alcohol content as regular vodka in America. Whether you enjoy it on its own or in a cocktail, Cointreau's citrusy taste provides a unique take on every sip.
This unique spirit is not just any type of Triple Sec. It's a liquor that features a perfect blend of over 40 aromas, making it truly one-of-a-kind. While the term "Triple Sec" may be used to describe any orange-flavored liquor, Cointreau sets itself apart with its rich history and unique manufacturing process, which can only be found in the city of Angers.
This exclusivity makes this spirit even more exceptional, as it is only produced in one distillery in the world. With its special production process, Cointreau is a liquor that stands in a class of its own.
Reimagining Cointreau
Even though Cointreau has maintained the same iconic bottle design for more than a century, they've recently made some significant changes to improve its environmental sustainability. Now, the new Cointreau bottle will be made using two-thirds recycled glass, which helps to reduce the carbon footprint of its manufacturing process.
In addition to this, the new bottle will also feature a spectacular orange design, giving it a fresh and modern but still classic look. On the back of the bottle, you will be able to find a QR code that will take you to a library of hundreds of cocktail recipes that feature this spirit.
Pairing with Seafood
This classic French spirit pairs perfectly with seafood, and at Timoti's Seafood Shak, you can pair it with our mouthwatering tacos.
