History of Edible Tableware

What could be better than enjoying a tasty meal and then continuing to enjoy the tableware that it was served in? With our new bread-bowls here at Timoti’s, the meal no longer has to end once the soup is gone!

Edible tableware can be dated back to as early as 8000 B.C. when plantain-leaf plates were commonly used to enjoy meals. Meanwhile, bread-bowls date back to Medieval times.

This edible creation was first called a trencher and it was consumed by both King’s and peasants alike. Due to its economically efficient way of using up stale bread instead of throwing it away and the ability to hold a wide variety of soups and stews, it’s no wonder this meal was so popular. This Medieval invention has now progressed into the modern-day bread-bowl, used primarily to hold soups and dips before digging into the crispy loaf itself.

Bringing Back History at Timoti’s

We’re happy to bring back this Medieval tradition, allowing our guests to enjoy every last bite of their meal even if that means the bowl too! Just like our variety of soups, our bread-bowls are all made in-house and baked to perfection. There’s nothing more comforting than a warm bowl of soup and a crispy piece of bread, so enjoy the best of both here at Timoti’s.
