Northeast Florida offers memorable and beautiful trails full of wildlife and are a great destination to kayak. As many Floridian’s are eager to get outside and stay active with fun outdoor activities, we have created a list of kayaking places to visit year-round. These spots are perfect for wildlife viewing, experiencing a one-of-a-kind outdoor adventure and an enjoying safe, social distancing fun.

Kayaking is great aerobic exercise for your heart and body. Paddling can improve arm, back and shoulder strength and is also a good source in helping to reduce stress levels. Being outside and enjoying the sunlight and fresh air is relaxing and a fun way to relax and refresh the mind.

Below, you’ll see some of our favorite kayaking spots available within Northeast Florida’s backwaters. Jacksonville and Amelia Island have many places to kayak with guided tours, and no prior kayaking experience is necessary. Kayaking is a fun way to spend time with your family, enjoy the warm outdoors and explore the diverse wildlife Northeast Florida has to offer.

Little Talbot Island State Park

The views this state park has to offer are breathtaking! From spotting roseate spoonbills to taking in the salt breeze and marshy earth habitats, Little Talbot Island has you in for a treat. Explore the salt marsh with your personal kayaks or rent for the day through Kayak Amelia.

 

Intercostal Salt Marsh

This waterway is great for a half-day or full day adventure, and is easy for all ages and skill levels. While kayaking the intercostal salt marsh, you will pass five nature preserves such as the Dutton Island and Riverbranch Preserve. Be on the lookout for all kinds of wildlife species as well as manatees and dolphins. Different bird and fish species can be spotted as well.

Hanna Park

Hanna Park

Home to 60 acres of fresh water for fishing, kayaking, boats and canoes, this is a park made for outdoor lovers. Located on the Atlantic Ocean between the Naval Station Mayport and Atlantic Beach, Hanna Park is a beautiful location to set off on an adventure. St. Johns River

Home to many fisherman, this local spot is also a great destination for kayaking, fishing, boating and other water activities. The St. Johns River is the longest river in the state of Florida, with its widest point nearly 3 miles across! There are many exciting views to see along this waterway and a great way to relax and take in the beauty of the world around us.

Timucuan Ecological & Historical Preserve

With 46,000 acres of salt marshes, coastal dunes and hammocks, kayaking at this reserve is an adventure. There are many trails to explore, sites to visit and the chance to discover the human history of the Timucuan Ecological Preserve. If you don’t have your own kayak, you can rent one at Kayak Amelia.
