THE KITCHEN IS HEATING UP
With temperatures heating up it’s time to start making those summer playlists. Whether you’re going to the beach, for a walk in the park, or even going to grab a bite, a summer playlist is the best way to create the perfect vibe for your day!
People make playlists for many reasons. Some people make them for organization or to share their music taste with others but if you’re like us you’re making a new playlist every time you drive to the beach. Some even consider making playlists a form of art and self expression, being able to balance curation with emotion.
Playlists are inspired by many things and are easy to make. Here at Timoti’s, we’ve created our perfect summertime playlist to give you some inspiration. Timoti’s, located in Fernandina Beach and Nocatee, crafts fresh and local meals that customers can’t get enough of! So to match our coastal-culture, our playlist is curated of 9 of our favorite ocean inspired songs…

TOP 9 SONGS FOR YOUR SUMMER PLAYLIST
1. Ocean Man- Ween
You may know this song from the 2004 hit movie…”The Spongebob Squarepants Movie”. But did you know the Ween album “The Mollusk” was actually one of the main inspirations for the show’s initial creation. A perfect summer song that creates that feeling of nostalgia.
2. (Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay- Otis Redding
This classic seaside song is sure to make you feel cool on those hot summer days. Otis Redding’s #1 hit now lives as an ode to the times it was written in.
3. Beyond the Sea- Bobby Darin
Bobby Darin’s “Beyond the Sea” is a beautiful sailor’s love song at sea. The sailor yearns to be at home with his love and vows that once he is, he’ll never go sailing again.
4. Octopus’s Garden- The Beatles
The Beatles were well known for their bizarre song and album titles. However “Octopus's Garden” was only the second song band member Ringo Starr had ever written. The song was inspired by a dining experience he had aboard comedian Peter Seller’s boat in 1968, where the captain shared how octopus travel along the seabed and collect shiny objects and create gardens with them.
5. Cake by the Ocean- DNCE
In 2015, former Jonas Brothers member broke off to start his own band, DNCE. Their breakthrough song “Cake by the Ocean” became an instant hit with listeners and summer anthem. The song is filled with playful metaphors.
6. Kokomo- The Beach Boys
While not necessarily about the ocean, “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys is the perfect summer song to raise your spirits.
7. Soak up the Sun- Sheryl Crow
Another sunshine-day classic, Sheryl Crow’s “Soak up the Sun” features Beach Boy-esque elements and serves as an anti-capitalism anthem.
8. Under the Sea- Samuel E. Wright, The Little Mermaid
How could we make an oceanic inspired playlist without mentioning one of Walt Disney Studio’s most memorable and extravagant animated musical numbers, “Under the Sea”. Its upbeat Caribbean tempo actually won composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1990 Oscars.
9. Rock Lobster- The B-52’s
The B-52’s were known for their experimental and alternative pop dance music and "Rock Lobster " is one of the best examples of their beloved quirkiness.
