How to Throw an Exciting New Year’s Eve Party

Celebrating a fresh start with a new year is always exciting, and what better way to do it than with friends and family at home? An at-home gathering doesn’t need to be expensive or extravagant, but a few small touches can help make your celebration feel special.

Make Your Own Drinks

New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to try out a new drink recipe. Prepare for your guests by making festive cocktails or mocktails like Confetti Champagne or Shirley Temples. Make Confetti Champagne by spreading vanilla frosting around the rim of a champagne glass, then dipping it in Pop Rocks. Next, add an ounce of vanilla flavored vodka and champagne to your glasses, and top with Sprite. Shirley Temples are a great non-alcoholic option, and they’re easy to make. Just fill your glass with Sprite, lime juice, and grenadine. Serve with a maraschino cherry and pour into a champagne glass to make it festive.

Create a Photo Backdrop

Take New Year’s Eve photos with your friends and family to commemorate the first day of the new year. Create a festive photo backdrop with silver and gold balloons, glitter cardstock, and garland. Balloon walls are another simple way to make a great background for photos by spelling out a New Year’s phrase with letter balloons. To make your photos even more memorable, leave out some props like New Years hats, crowns, glasses and noisemakers.

Craft DIY Projects

Make DIY noisemakers and resolution jars while you wait for midnight. To make a resolution jar, all you need is an empty jar filled with blank cards or paper. Guests can write down their resolutions for the new year and take them home to remember what they hope to accomplish. DIY noisemakers can be made using large wavy craft sticks, silver jingle bells, leftover Christmas bows, and black and silver paint. Paint your craft sticks with the black and silver paint, then glue your bells and bows to the top to ring in the new year.

Prepare Food and Desserts

No party is complete without a few appetizers and desserts. Garlic Shrimp Dip is a great option, and it only takes about 30 minutes to prepare. Start by setting your oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet, heat oil and add shrimp seasoned with salt and pepper. Cook until shrimp is opaque, then combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, mozzarella, Parmesan, lemon juice and zest, parsley, and chopped shrimp. Add this to a baking dish and cook for 25 minutes, then garnish with parsley and serve with pita chips. Chocolate covered pretzels are a good option for dessert, because they can be decorated with edible glitter or silver and gold sprinkles to stay on theme with New Year’s Eve.
