Get Ready for Easter Sunday

Preparing for Easter

Easter marks the unofficial beginning of the Spring season, and what better way to celebrate than with bright colors and family-friendly activities? This Easter, April 17th, spend time with friends or family by trying out a new recipe and hosting a fun Sunday brunch. Things like egg hunting and festive decorations can help make the holiday even more memorable. Here are some of our favorite ways to prepare for Easter:

Host a Sunday Brunch

Prepare for guests by making a brunch buffet with fruit, pastries, and finger-foods that guests can choose from throughout the day. Guests will love Easter-themed snacks like Carrot Cake Truffles or Egg Hunt Cookies. You can also use pastel colored decorations to use as photo backdrops to keep things on-theme and festive.

If you would prefer not to cook, visit a local brunch spot like Cafe Karibo, which serves brunch every Sunday. Choose from menu options like French Toast, Crabby Eggs Benedict, or Shrimp and Grits. You can also order Cafe Karibo to go and enjoy with family and friends at home.

Decorate Easter Eggs

Decorating Easter eggs is one of the most fun ways to celebrate the holiday. Dye can be purchased at most craft stores, but making your own dye at home is easy, too. Just mix together 1 teaspoon of vinegar, ¼ teaspoon of the food coloring of your choice, and ¾ cup of water. Mix each color in a separate container for the best results.

After your dye is mixed, you’re ready to start decorating your eggs. Use tongs, a spoon, or your hands to gently dip the eggs into the dye. If you want to add designs to your egg, a paint brush is the best way to make small details. Once your eggs are decorated and dry, they’re ready to be hidden for an egg hunt.

Play Easter-Themed Games

Get your family and friends moving by playing Easter-themed games in your backyard. A classic game that works well with your dyed eggs is an egg on a spoon race. Each player has to carry a spoon with an egg on it and run to the finish line. If you want to avoid a mess, it's best to use a hardboiled egg for this game.

A bunny hop sack race is another fun game to play with your family. Decorate pillow cases with pastel colors to add a festive touch.

Explore Outdoors

For a laid-back Easter Sunday, spend time outdoors biking or walking through one of Jacksonville’s parks. The Jacksonville Baldwin Rail Trail has a paved path that’s easy to follow, making it perfect for a family bike ride. Tillie K Fowler Regional Park has short trails that offer a great view of Florida’s pines and wetlands.

A trip to the beach is always a great way to spend a Sunday. Pack some snacks or order food to go and set up at the beach for a peaceful day spent outdoors.
