A Guide to Florida Fishing

Florida is home to some of the best fishing spots around. From the Florida Keys to Jacksonville, the state is filled with spots to catch a variety of fish like Cobia, Redfish, and King Mackerel. Head to Daytona Beach and fish at Mosquito Lagoon to find some of the Atlantic’s most talked about fish like Snook and Red and Black drum. In Miami, you’ll find deep sea fishing opportunities galore, with the chance to encounter fish like Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, and Mahi Mahi. Thousands of anglers visit Panama City beach each year to hunt for fish in the area’s shallow, still water. What many Florida tourists and residents don’t realize, however, is that some of the best fishing spots can be found in Fernandina

End the Summer at These Fishing Spots Near Fernandina

If you’re looking to take a fishing trip or even just looking for a local fishing spot, Fernandina is the place for you. With plenty of beach access and dozens of fishing charter opportunities, Fernandina is the ideal location for a beach vacation or a day on the water catching fish. A few favorite Fernandina fishing spots include:

1- Fort Clinch State Park

History and nature collide beautifully at Fort Clinch State Park, and it's also a great place to catch fish. Visitors can surf fish along the Atlantic shoreline and St. Mary’s Inlet. There are also a few jetties in the park that provide a great place to set up for a day of fresh catches. Some of the most common fish found by anglers in Fort Clinch State Park include redfish, black drum, whiting, flounder, mullet, and sea trout. It is recommended to bring bait like shrimp or mud minnows, and a small variety of bait options are available for purchase at the park’s Visitor Center.

2- Egans Creek Park

Egans Creek Park is another fishing hot spot because of its fishing pier and kayak launching dock. At the south side of the park, you’ll find pinfish and baitfish, while on the north side, you can fish for redfish and trout. Plenty of other wildlife like alligators, snakes, bobcats, and birds can be spotted from a distance at Egans Creek Park.

3- George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park

A little outside of Fernandina you’ll find George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park located in Jacksonville. While this fishing spot might require some travel for Fernandina residents, the reward is worth it with a high likelihood of catching whiting, jack fish, drum, and tarpon. You’ll find this state park by entering through Amelia Island State Park, since the pier is closed to vehicle traffic. The waters of this park, called Nassau Sound, are home to the state record flounder which was over 20 lbs. This, along with the large variety of fish that can be found in the area, make George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park one of the best fishing spots in northeast Florida.

Fernandina offers many beach parks with fishing piers, and one of those is Goffinsville Park. At Goffinsville, you’ll find flounder, trout, redfish, and sometimes even tripletail swimming along the Nassau River. The park also offers a boat ramp and children’s play areas, making it the perfect stop for a family fishing day.
